Multiplex - a comic strip about life at the movies
DELETED SCENES

The Multiplex 10 Kickstarter has SIX DAYS TO GO

The Multiplex 10 Kickstarter has (as of this writing) 444 wonderful backers contributing to it — that’s two more backers than the Multiplex: The Revenge (Book Three) had in its entire funding period. Which is, of course, fantastic.

But… because we’re talking about a $10 digital download (plus behind the scenes access) versus a $25 printed book (including shipping and whatnot), we’re still $1,260 short of the funding goal — and a few thousand dollars shy from being able to distribute the short effectively, which will increase our chances of making more than just one episode.

I’ve been posting Multiplex 10 comics for every significant milestone we’ve hit — like this one for passing the 90% funding goal — and there are more to come. Some of these comics (like the two I shared here last week) lead up to the events in the first episode. The Multiplex 10 comics are fun to make, and they let me work on the character models and other things that I’m building for the short without spoiling the story in the short, so I’ll keep doing them… if the short gets funded… about once a week, over at the Multiplex 10 website.

Anyway… yeah! Please check out the Multiplex 10 Kickstarter project page and chip in a few bucks if you’d like to see more adventures with Kurt and Jason and the rest.

ALSO… bonus materials for Book Four has started up on Patreon. New Book Four bonus comics will show up about once a week. (So far, there’s only a two-panel “extended scene” but… there’s more to come.)

AND one more thing — the Multiplex Store has a few new/old T-shirt designs. So if you’re currently shirtless, check that out. For instance, this oldie but goodie has been brought back from the dead (wink wink):

I Believe in George Romero

Multiplex 10: Good Talk

Angie, like Franklin, is another significant character from Multiplex who only gets a brief cameo in the pilot episode. So here she is in a Multiplex 10 comic strip.

At nearly $13,250 (as I write this), we’re allllllmost at 90% funding with EIGHT DAYS to go. We need your support to make this pilot happen — and to help distribute it so that we can make more than just one episode! Check out the Multiplex 10 Kickstarter project page today! (Please.)

Also, in case you missed it, there were a couple of new… uh, I’m not sure how to refer to them. “Promo comics,” I guess? The Multiplex 10 versions of Melissa & Becky and Franklin introduce themselves and talk about the animated short and one of the Kickstarter milestones, like the Kurt & Jason one I posted here a while ago. I posted those around the social medias and the separate, Multiplex 10-specific site, which some of you may not know about.

Multiplex 10: Hyrule Isn’t Going to Save Itself

If you’ve seen the rough animatic of the first scene from the animated short (which I posted both on Patreon and in the Kickstarter updates), you know that the episode begins before Jason has started working at the Multiplex 10.

So here’s one difference between the Multiplex 10 “universe” and Multiplex (comic strip) canon; Franklin started at the theater before Jason does. Also, the movie poster frames aren’t red anymore, because their vests are red, that was a really stupid decision, and I should have changed it ten years ago.

I feel bad that Franklin only has a small cameo in the first episode, especially since I already know who I want to voice him (hi, Terrence). Sadly, a lot of things that factor big in the comic won’t turn up in the first eleven minute episode, because it focuses on Kurt and Jason. But hopefully we’ll get to make more.

And even if we can’t, I’ll still want to make some mini-webisode sort of things and maybe a digital comic (e.g. Comixology Submit style)… and, of course, there’s also a tabletop/card game in development. So, like I’ve said, I’m not done with these characters yet.

Say hello to Kurt and Jason

Hello! The Multiplex 10 Kickstarter project ends in just over 14 days. As of this writing, we are a little north of $12,000, so just over 80% of our base goal. Judging from my last two Kickstarters, we’re doing very well. The final week should pick up considerably over this past week.

BUT don’t forget that we still have a milestone goal of Jason reviewing every Harry Potter movie if we make that $15,000 baseline goal on/before Wednesday, April 26th, though! (Plus Fantastic Beasts if we make it on/before Monday, April 24th. But that seems kind of unlikely at this point.) I thought that was a fun premise… but it’s up to the Gods of Kickstarter now.

I also officially added our first (and, at this point, only) STRETCH GOAL. At $20,000, we’ll be able to do a few extra things:

  • Smoother, 4K animation
  • 5.1 Surround Sound mix (courtesy sound designer Ian Vargo)
  • AND… a theatrical premiere at the Somerville Theatre here in Somerville, MA. (All backers at the Special Thanks level and up will get free admission… although, of course, transportation is not provided.)

Thanks so much for all your support. I’m exciting at how the Kickstarter project is coming together, and I can’t wait to get started on the animated short. (Full time, I mean. I’m already working on it!)

Pledge your support today! If you haven’t already!
