Multiplex - a comic strip about life at the movies
DELETED SCENES

Trailer Watch: Teaser for David B’s L’Ascension du Haut Mal (Epileptic)

David B’s Epileptic is one of my all-time favorite graphic novels. It’s an autobiographical story about Pierre-François Beauchard’s youth, focusing on his relationship with his epileptic brother Jean-Christophe. (I reviewed it nine years ago for Bookslut, if you’re curious about the book — but you should just buy it now.)

The comic has been adapted into a gorgeous animated movie with French title L’Ascension du Haut Mal by Christophe Gérard. (When it finds domestic distribution, it will almost certainly pick up the comic’s American title.)

A second, shorter teaser can be found at the film’s official website. They haven’t announced a release date yet, as far as I know, but I’ll be seeing it as soon as possible.

Multiplex Movie Review comics (starring Jason)

Jason explains everything you need to know about this bonus comic in the strip itself:

multiplex-iron_sky

Other films reviewed to date are The Addams Family movies, The Lives of Others, Rubber, Get Real, and Transformers: The Movie. Some of them are kinda funny, some of them are actually serious, but they’re all fun, I hope. Anyway, they were available to Kickstarter backers, of course, and now also my Patreon patrons in the Activity Stream — and since I enjoyed doing them, I going to keep doing them as exclusive Patreon bonus comics from time to time (and, yes, Kurt will get to do a review now and then, too).

So consider this a sneak preview of being a Patreon patron! Support Multiplex via Patreon to read the rest in the patrons-only Activity Stream — and whether or not you’re already a patron, there’s a movie you’d like to see Jason review, let me know here!

Second Patreon Milestone Goal reached!

Book_2_Patreon-goal_2

We’ve just hit the second milestone goal ($600)!

What this means is, once my patrons’ accounts are charged next (around the first of next month), MULTIPLEX WILL BE COMPLETELY READER-SUPPORTED AND DEVOID OF THOSE ANNOYING THIRD PARTY ADS. Thank you so incredibly much to all of the Patreon backers and anyone else who spread the word about the project (or Multiplex, really)!

Once I can roll out the reworked site, strip images will be significantly larger (most likely 900px wide), yet the website should still load a bit faster. My programmer Jelly and I are looking at making the site both responsive and retina-friendly at the same time, but those may take a while longer… so no promises for those just yet.

I would just yank the ads now, because I hate them, except that would screw up the site layout. Removing them is not quite as simple as it might seem, I’m afraid, and will involve a bit of a redesign, as I mention in the Milestone Goals sidebar over at Patreon.

When we reach the NEXT milestone goal ($1000): I will post (at least) four Multiplex Movie Reviews or other bonus comics per month here for patrons! So it will be allllmost like three strips per week.

If you’re not already a patron, head over to the Patreon page
and check out everything you get in return for you support!

Trailer Watch: Captain America: The Winter Soldier 4-minute preview trailer

Be warned: this is really a three minute clip from the movie with a 1-minute trailer at the end. AND there is one or two spoilery things that you may not want to see, if you want to go into the theater with as close to a blank slate as possible.

However. If that doesn’t bother you, it is pretty awesome. The action we see here is a lot of fun.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford and Samuel L. Jackson. It hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
