Trailer Watch: RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists red band trailer

RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists has a red band trailer out, and I’m guessing if you’ve seen the first trailer, this isn’t going to change your opinion of it.

The plot is… hahaha, who cares? Just watch the trailer.

Russell Crowe, RZA, Lucy Liu, Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Byron Mann, Daniel Wu, and Pam Grier star in RZA’s directorial debut, which he co-wrote with Eli Roth (Hostel). Catch it in theaters on November 2, 2012.

Trailer Watch: Skyfall theatrical trailers

Two theatrical trailers are up for Sam Mendes’s 007 flick, Skyfall, and in them, we meet Q and Javier Bardem’s bad guy, and we get decent overview of the plot of the film. They’re not much different, though there are a few quick shots in each that the other doesn’t have.

Skyfall hits theaters on November 9th. The film stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace and Tonia Sotiropoulou.

Trailer Watch: Zack Snyder gives good trailer to the Man of Steel

It’s no secret that I don’t like Zack Snyder’s films. Watchmen was good, but missed the point of the comics in several ways, and 300 and Sucker Punch were both pretty, brain-dead slogs for me. Clearly, he has his fans. (I’m told Dawn of the Dead doesn’t do this, but haven’t bothered to see it yet.) And yet every one of their trailers was pretty great. The teaser trailer(s) for Man of Steel is no exception in that regard.

I’m honestly surprised, though: it’s not just AWESOME cranked up to 11. It feels mature. It feels grown-up. It looks grounded in reality (or as grounded in reality as a film about a man who can fly can get). Its tone is… really kind of beautiful. The presence of red and blue and nearly every shot of the trailer, all presumably from footage before Clark takes on the cape, is clever (and far more subtle than that sounds).

It’s easy to assume producer Christopher Nolan had some influence with that, but I think that would be unfair to Mr. Snyder. Still, his trailers have been good before, and his films… less good, so I don’t want to get my hopes up too much for a great Superman film. We’ll see next year.

The footage in both of these teasers is identical (I think), but the voiceovers are different, so check them both out:

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue (Pandorum), Ayelet Zurer, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El. The film is slated for a June 14, 2013 release.

Thomas Jane is back as the Punisher (unofficially) in “Dirty Laundry”

Thomas Jane previously starred in Lionsgate’s 2004 The Punisher, which didn’t do very well in the theaters or with critics — at least, not well enough to warrant a sequel by the same team. But the 2008 Punisher: War Zone fared even worse.

At this year’s SDCC, Jane premiered a ten minute “fan film” starring himself as Frank Castle once again, called “Dirty Laundry.” Jane explained: “I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in — a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish. We hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”

Honestly, it’s… uh… not very good for most of its running time — but once the killing starts (oh, and it’s pretty violent), it gets fun. Sorry to spoil the fact that he’s the Punisher, by the way. It’s mean to be an awesome reveal at the end, but… really, it doesn’t make a difference.
