Trailer Watch: Jupiter Ascending teaser trailer

The Wachowskis are back to make original sci-fi stories with Jupiter Ascending, starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, and Sean Bean (among others). There are a couple of thematic similarities with The Matrix here (normal person waking up to find out they’re special, for one), but I dunno. It looks pretty?

The film opens July 25, 2014.

Here’s the official description, courtesy Coming Soon:

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Trailer Watch: Captain America: The Winter Soldier UK trailer

This looks… SO much better than the first one.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford and Samuel L. Jackson. It hits theaters on April 4, 2014.

Trailer Watch: Carl Erik Rinsch’s 47 Ronin

The story of the forty-seven ronin’s revenge has been told before many times, in film, TV, plays, opera, comics… basically, every format imaginable.

When Keanu Reeves was announced as starring in a new take on the story, it was immediately obvious that it wasn’t going to be a historically faithful version. Then we started hearing about “witches and giants” and I guess they’d decided to chuck all realism out the window. The results look alright, I guess, but a little too heavy on that bland, plasticky big-budget action-adventure CG look that Hollywood has been cranking out too much of lately.

The film also stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Rinko Kikuchi. It hits theaters on December 25th this year — in 3D, of course.

Trailer Watch: Riddick red band Comic-Con trailer

Director David Twohy and Vin Diesel’s second attempt to turn the main character of the surprise hit sci-fi action flick Pitch Black into a franchise (after the failure of Chronicles of Riddick) is coming on September 6th. This red band trailer for Riddick premiered at Comic-Con and found its way onto the film’s official YouTube page earlier today.

It looks a little over the top to me compared with Pitch Black (my favorite Alien film since Jim Cameron’s sequel*) but still kind of fun.

The film co-stars Karl Urban, Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and Dave Batista.
