Trailer Watch: Snowpiercer international trailer

The Host and Mother director Bong Joon Ho’s English language debut, Snowpiercer, is out in South Korea in August, with a North American release… sometime after that, probably. Anyway, the trailer has hit the web courtesy the film’s official YouTube page.

Based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette, it is set in a post-apocalyptic future where…

an ice age has killed off nearly all life on the planet. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the ‘Snowpiercer,’ a massive train that travels around the planet and is powered by a perpetual-motion engine. Over time a class system evolves on the train, with the elites inhabiting the ‘front’ of the train and poor inhabiting the ‘back’ of the train. Tired of the poor conditions suffered by riders in the ‘back,’ a revolution occurs with the riders attempting to seize control of the engine which the elites in the ‘front’ consider ‘sacred.’

So, a little bit far-fetched, but sometimes movies have a way of transcending a goofy premise, you know?

The film stars Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris.

Trailer Watch: Star Trek Into Darkness final trailer

The final trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness has hit the internet, and (I think) it’s the best one yet. Heavy on the gravitas, and a few big, big plot teases. This is gonna be fun.

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters next month, on May 17, 2013. It stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, and Bruce Greenwood.

Trailer Watch: Cloud Atlas domestic trailer

A little over a month after the five minute international trailer for Cloud Atlas hit the web, we now have a domestic trailer, which gives you the barest details of the plot(s) and showcases a few of the film’s stars. The film (like the novel) weaves together six separate-yet-connected stories: a 19th century sea expedition, 1930s Belgium, 1970s California, present day London, a dystopian future Korea, and a post-apocalyptic Hawaii.

Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Bae Doona, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, Keith David, James D’Arcy and Hugo Weaving star in the October 26th release. Andy and Lana Wachowski & Tom Tykwer co-wrote and co-directed the film.
