I really enjoyed the third Mission: Impossible film, thanks to JJ Abrams and amazing turn as a villain by Philip Seymour Hoffman, but the real draw here with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol isn’t Tom Cruise: it’s Brad Bird. The director of The Incredibles and The Iron Giant is trying his hand at live action, and I’ll be God damned if there aren’t a lot of really good shots in this. Whether or not the script strings together the action as well as it needs to, these action scenes are gonna be great. Mark my words.
I don’t know man, I want to like it because I loved the last one and I love Brad Bird, but I do not trust Tom Cruise with long hair. I remember what happened the las time he had long hair, and it wasn’t good. Also, this looks over the top epic where the third one was more straightforward action epic.
Tom Cruise had long hair in Magnolia, and it was FANTASTIC. What movie are you thinking of?
Mission Impossible 2, the movie we don’t speak about. Also recently Knight and Day, which wasn’t terrible but not that great either. I haven’t actually seen Magnolia, I’ll have to put it on my list.
Magnolia is… “not for everyone.” I don’t like that term, because no movie is, but that on in particular is one of those many, many movies a lot of people call “long and boring” and “pretentious,” but I think it’s brilliant — and Cruise is used beautifully as an arrogant douchebag (typecasting, naturally).
