One of the most unnecessary sequels ever made — a Bourne sequel without Jason Bourne — is out soon, and yet the trailer looks pretty interesting. Tony Gilroy (screenwriter of the original films) is back as writer and is also taking over directing duties.
The Bourne Legacy stars Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) as the Matt Damon stand-in, and honestly, I don’t really care what it’s about. It’ll be in theaters on August 3rd, though.
I didn’t post the new teaser for Skyfall (the next 007 film) when it came out, because I didn’t think it showed all that much to get worked up about, but here that is for your compare/contrasting pleasure. Skyfall hits theaters in the US on November 9.
I’ll take Renner over Damon any day of the week, far more interesting actor to me. Plus add to that Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton and I’m 100% sold on the new direction.
So far Renner has yet to really impress me enough to get excited for his movies. Not an interesting actor in my book.
Have you seen Prometheus yet? Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
It’s not out in the US yet, but I’ll definitely be seeing it.
“you’ve had alterations to two different chromosomes” is where Legacy loses it for me. The concept of Legacy doesn’t require Jason Bourne and psychologically crafted super assassins missing a sense of identity are cool (and the Bourne films always stated there were more than one as they had the others try to kill Bourne). But adding crass science fiction to it seems unappealing. I want something a bit more grounded if it is going to continue as part of the same franchise because genetically altered spies, that is a different film altogether.
