Trailer Watch: Skyfall theatrical trailers

Two theatrical trailers are up for Sam Mendes’s 007 flick, Skyfall, and in them, we meet Q and Javier Bardem’s bad guy, and we get decent overview of the plot of the film. They’re not much different, though there are a few quick shots in each that the other doesn’t have.

Skyfall hits theaters on November 9th. The film stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace and Tonia Sotiropoulou.

Trailer Watch: The five-minute international trailer for Cloud Atlas is a stunner

Maybe it’s just me reacting to beautiful music and impeccable visuals, but the five-minute international trailer for Andy and Lana Wachowski & Tom Tykwer’s feature adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas sent chills down my spine. The trailer promises something incredibly, impressively ambitious, and it will be amazing if they can even come close to pulling it off.

Like the novel, the two hour and forty-four minute movie weaves together six separate-yet-connected stories: a 19th century sea expedition, 1930s Belgium, 1970s California, present day London, a dystopian future Korea, and a post-apocalyptic Hawaii. The film’s official synopsis describes it as “an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.”

Head over to Indie Wire for more about the film, including interviews with the directors/co-writers. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Bae Doona, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, Keith David, James D’Arcy and Hugo Weaving star in the October 26th release.

ParaNorman making-of featurette: “Hand-making the World”

I posted the trailer for Laika’s ParaNorman last October, and while the film still has a little way to go before its August 17th release, Focus Features has posted a making-of featurette on the official website.

I’m a huge animation nerd, and I love behind the scenes/making-of stuff, so I thought I’d post something other than a trailer or a short film just this once.

A synopsis for the zombie flick follows after the cut:

“Lake Beast” by Vance Reeser

“Lake Beast” is a short film funded in part by an early Kickstarter project by Vance Reeser, and it’s one I’m proud to say I contributed to. (By “early,” I mean the pre-2011/2012 explosion where people started making millions of dollars. It was up around the same time that my Multiplex: Enjoy Your Show project was up, in late 2009.)

At long last, the short has been completed. It’s a dream-like short about childhood vision that “compels a man to explore the bottom of a toxic lake,” and I highly recommend investing the seven(-ish) minutes of your life to watch it. It’s also up on Vimeo and you can purchase it (for however much you’re willing to give) via Gumroad, as well. Or, just watch it here:
