Director David Twohy and Vin Diesel’s second attempt to turn the main character of the surprise hit sci-fi action flick Pitch Black into a franchise (after the failure of Chronicles of Riddick) is coming on September 6th. This red band trailer for Riddick premiered at Comic-Con and found its way onto the film’s official YouTube page earlier today.
It looks a little over the top to me compared with Pitch Black (my favorite Alien film since Jim Cameron’s sequel*) but still kind of fun.
The film co-stars Karl Urban, Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and Dave Batista.
* Please somebody “correct” me on this.
OH I’LL CORRECT YOU, SMARTY PANTS!!!
Mr. Cameron generally goes by “James” unless you know him personally!
We’re buds, Jim and me.
In Pitch Black I felt Riddick was interesting because of the humanity of the other characters in the movie. I just can’t feel compelled to watch a movie about him being a badass, but I wouldn’t mind seeing this for the over the top monster movie nature of it since he’s back with normal characters.
This… sequel feels unnecessary to me somehow. Isn’t this the same story as one of the earlier films, more or less?
If Karl Urban is in this, then isn’t Riddick still emperor of the universe ?
You’re the guy who saw that movie, apparently?
I figure that, being Riddick, the very beginning of the movie will be him sitting on his throne when he decides “Bored now,” and just gets up and leaves.
