Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow’s film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden has a title — Zero Dark Thirty — as well as a teaser trailer.
There’s… really not a lot to go by, but the script (as with Hurt Locker) was by Mark Boal, the cast is pretty great (as you’d expect for the follow-up to a huge critical hit like Hurt Locker: Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Edgar Ramirez, Mark Strong, Kyle Chandler, Nash Edgerton, Jennifer Ehle, Harold Perrineau and Frank Grillo star in the December 19th release.
I missed this from a few days ago, but I’m all excited: French animator Michel Ocelot has made a third film starring the tiny-but-wise African folk hero Kirikou, Kirikou: Men and Women. The first two Kirikou films — Kirikou and the Sorceress and Kirikou and the Wild Beast are absolutely wonderful children’s movies — beautifully animated, with a wonderful 2D style.
With the new film, it looks like they’re using CG models, for an even cleaner line and smoother movement. (Do you call it cel shading if there’s no shading?) While I haven’t seen Ocelot’s previous effort, Azur et Asmar (a.k.a. The Princes’ Quest), the stiff CG I saw in the trailer was a bit of a turn-off. Here, the simpler colors on the figures makes this look much, much better. The film was made in 3D and should be out in France next February? I have no idea when it will make it here, of course, but a (very) limited release to a few art house theaters is likely.
The trailer is NSFW, I guess. It’s non-sexual nudity, albeit a lot of it — the African villagers, including Kirikou, don’t wear a lot of clothing. If you’ve seen the earlier films, you already know that. If you haven’t, I swear, it’s really a kid’s flick!
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford director Andrew Dominik is back, once again with Brad Pitt in the leading role. In Killing Them Softly, an adaptation Cogan’s Trade by George V. Higgins, Pitt stars as a mob enforcer charged with tracking down a pair of small-time crooks (Scoot McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn) who’ve robbed a mob card game.
The film premiered at Cannes earlier this year, where it was nominated for the Palme d’Or and scored some positive reviews.
Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins, Sam Shepard and James Gandolfini co-star in the October 19th release.
Two theatrical trailers are up for Sam Mendes’s 007 flick, Skyfall, and in them, we meet Q and Javier Bardem’s bad guy, and we get decent overview of the plot of the film. They’re not much different, though there are a few quick shots in each that the other doesn’t have.
Skyfall hits theaters on November 9th. The film stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace and Tonia Sotiropoulou.
