Trailer Watch: The Day

WWE Studios and Anchor Bay Films presents The Day, a post-apocalyptic thriller with a pretty sweet premise (as well as a great B-list cast): a group of survivors stumble upon an abandoned farmhouse that turns out to be a trap.

Director Douglas Aarniokoski has been Robert Rodriguez’s 2nd Unit director for years, but this trailer looks to have much less of Rodriguez’s camp flavor.

The Day stars Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism), Michael Eklund (The Divide), Cory Hardrict (Gran Torino, Battle: Los Angeles), Dominic Monaghan (ABC’s “Lost”, Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale). The full official synopsis follows after the break, below.

Trailer Watch: Tom Hardy and Shia in John Hillcoat’s Lawless

A new trailer for Lawless just hit the internet thanks to Yahoo!, and while I don’t really think this is a good trailer, but it probably isn’t the last one we’ll see. I’m on board because of the director (John Hillcoat, The Proposition, The Road) and the cast — yes, even Shia.

Lawless stars Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and Mia Wasikowska. Nick Cave (The Proposition) adapted the screenplay from the novel “The Wettest County in the World” by Matt Bondurant.

Trailer Watch: RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists

Thanks to SnoutyPig, we have the trailer for RZA’s directorial debut, The Man with the Iron Fists. Co-written by RZA and Eli Roth, the film centers around a blacksmith in feudal China (played by RZA) who reluctantly comes to the defense of his small village. Clearly, we’re not going for historical accuracy here, because China had its borders locked up tight to foreigners, and clearly, neither RZA nor Russell Crowe are Chinese… but if that’s something you think needs to be nitpicked about, how about shutting up for those of us who know how to lighten the fuck up? This shit looks sweeeeet.

The film stars Russell Crowe, Cung Le, Lucy Liu, Byron Mann, RZA, Rick Yune, David Bautista, and Jamie Chung. Corey Yuen was the fight choreographer. For whatever reason, it doesn’t have a release date yet.

Trailer Watch: Domestic trailer for Looper

Hot on the heels of the international trailer, the new domestic trailer for Rian Johnson’s Looper also looks effin’ amazing… and also feels like they might be showing too much.

We’ll see. Looper opens on September 28 and stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo and Jeff Daniels.
