I hope Captain America: The Winter Soldier has earned Chris Evans enough clout to get a wide release for Snowpiercer, because damn, it looks pretty fun. (In spite of the silly French-sci-fi premise.)
The Bong Joon-ho flick finally reaches the U.S. of A. on June 27th — fully intact, not the Harvey Weinsteined version, but as a platform release instead of a wide release.

The Host and Mother director Bong Joon Ho’s English language debut, Snowpiercer, is out in South Korea in August, with a North American release… sometime after that, probably. Anyway, the trailer has hit the web courtesy the film’s official YouTube page.
Based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette, it is set in a post-apocalyptic future where…
an ice age has killed off nearly all life on the planet. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the ‘Snowpiercer,’ a massive train that travels around the planet and is powered by a perpetual-motion engine. Over time a class system evolves on the train, with the elites inhabiting the ‘front’ of the train and poor inhabiting the ‘back’ of the train. Tired of the poor conditions suffered by riders in the ‘back,’ a revolution occurs with the riders attempting to seize control of the engine which the elites in the ‘front’ consider ‘sacred.’
So, a little bit far-fetched, but sometimes movies have a way of transcending a goofy premise, you know?
The film stars Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris.

A new, more in-depth trailer for Steven Spielberg’s motion capture Hergé adaptation, The Adventures of Tintin has hit the webs, and while the first two trailers looked pretty good, now I’m sold on it. I’m still not crazy about the character designs, but the fluidity of the movement is terrific, and the performances and the story all feel true to the books — as well as a whole lot of fun.

The film opens in the UK this weekend, but won’t hit the US until December 21st (a whole two days earlier than the last time I checked). Let us know how it is, mates!
UPDATE (10/19): THR has kindly provided a short interview with director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson about their involvement with the Tintin film, and it sports a few seconds of footage not seen in this new trailer. Good stuff, all around.

Okay, I’m on board now. I still don’t like the too-“realistic” designs of the film, but Spielberg knows how to work a camera — apparently, even a virtual one — and I think I can get over it for two hours. The first trailer piqued my interest, but this new one actually shows characters talking and interacting more, and it’s all a bit more convincing.
For the uninitiated, the Tintin comics by Hergé follow the adventures of a young reporter, Tintin (Jamie Bell), and his dog Snowy as he journeys around the globe in search of a good story (even if you almost never actually see him write anything). The all-ages adventure comics were originally published from 1929–1976, and they are some of the greatest adventure comics ever made. (Various collected editions are in print, and should be available at good bookstores and comics shops everywhere.)
The Adventures of Tintin — adapting the two-part adventure comprised of “Secret of the Unicorn” and “Red Rackham’s Treasure” from the classic comics — sails onto the big screen on December 23rd.
